"Pink Whale" cake

My daughter requested a “PINK WHALE” cake for her 8th birthday.  Thanks to the internet, this idea completed the task.  Luckily I was able to find a “pink whale” online at Kohls which was pleasant surprise, because honestly I really didn't know how I was going to pull this birthday cake off.

Basic Instructions:

Make a double layer cake and freeze ahead of time before you frost.

Once the cake is frozen cut out a small hole for the whales tail to fit in so it looks like the whale is jumping out of the cake.  Be careful not to cut the hole too big or the whale will not stay in place well.

Remove the whale and frost the cake.  It really won't matter what kind of frostsing job you do because it will all be covered with either Kit Kat bars or M&Ms.

After frosting the cake place regular size Kit Kat bars around the edge of the cake.  The snack size Kit Kat bars are a bit too small for a two layer cake.

Next, put the whale’s tail into the cut hole and sprinkle M&Ms on top.  I specifically took out the BLUE M&Ms to save them for the top layer so it could resemble water.

You can make a banner if you would like and then place a pretty bow around the cake to make it complete.

There you have it… A Pink Whale jumping out of the birthday cake.  This was by far the easiest cake to decorate.

A home-made birthday cake was something I always enjoyed as a child and a great tradition passed down by my wonderful mom.
