4th of July Cake

This was a fun cake to make to celebrate the 4th of July.

I used a cake mix and divided the batter into three separate bowls and added blue food coloring to one and red food coloring to another bowl.

I baked the three different colors separately in round cake pans.

When cakes were completely cooled I put the three separate cakes in the freezer until hard.

Then I layered the three colors on top of each other.  I used a electric cutting knife to ensure that the top and bottom of the cake were nice and flat for the three layers.  Then frosted the cake and added blueberries and strawberries for the flag when I was ready to serve the cake.

Ritz Chicken

This was a recipe I received from my sister.  The chicken was simple to make and delicious to the taste.

Ritz Chicken

Ingredients:

¼ c. sour cream
1 TBS lemon juice
1 c. ritz crackers crumbled
¼ c parmesan cheese
2 tsp basil
1/3 pkg of ranch dip seasoning
4 small chicken breasts thinly sliced

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix sour cream and lemon juice in a pie pan.  Mix crackers, parmesan cheese and basil and ranch dip seasoning in another pie pan.  Dip chicken in the sour cream mixture and then the crumb mixture until evenly coated.  Bake on cookie sheet for 20-25 mins.

Fry seasoning

I got this recipe online and love the seasoning for home-made fries.

Fry Seasoning ingredients:

2 T salt
1 t Chili powder
1 t basil
1/8 t cumin
1/8 t black pepper

Cut about 3-4 potatoes french fry style and soak cut potatoes in cold water for 30 min.
Afterwards dry off potatoes and place in ziplock bag with 1 T oil and some seasoning to your taste.  Seal and shake the ziplock bag to cover potatoes with oil and seasonings.

Place potatoes on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.  Bake at 400 degrees for 30 min.  Afterwards turn oven to 425 degrees and continue to bake for 15-20 minutes until done.

Afterwards sprinkle potatoes with a little more seasonings to your taste and parmesan cheese.

Toothless Cake

My daughter requested a Toothless Cake for her 9th birthday since she's a big fan of the movie "How to train your dragon".  This was my attempt at a toothless cake, the idea came from a Pinterest Post.  My daughter was happy with her cake which made my heart smile.

I'll be honest, this was a test of my creativity.  Since my daughter is the artist, I had her draw a simple toothless shape, which I cut out and traced with frosting.

An Airplane Cake

My son wants to be a pilot when he grows up & requested a cake with airplanes for his 10th birthday.

Lego Cake

Lego's are a big hit in our house so it wasn't a surprise when my son requested a Lego Cake for his 9th birthday.

I frosted marshmallows for the lego tips.

I cut a cake into the lego shapes that I wanted.

Be sure to freeze the cake before you frost it.  The pieces (that had a cut side) were a bit tricky to frost due to crumbs getting in the frosting.

A pumpkin birthday cake

My daughter requested a pumpkin birthday cake for her 4th birthday.

I used a bundt cake pan for the shape of a pumpkin.
I iced an ice-cream cone for the stem.
And of course used orange sprinkles for a 4 year old girl that likes anything that sparkles.
