Artist Cake

I surprised my daughter with an Artist Cake for her 10th birthday which fits her personality perfectly.

I mixed the cake according to the directions and separated the cake dough into 4 different bowls and mixed with cake dough with different food colorings.  Then took two round cake pans and used a cup to put "blobs" of different colored cake dough into each pan and baked according to the directions.   This allowed for the cake to have a variety of colors inside.

For the decoration, I frosted the cake with white frosting first.  Then separated the frosting into 5 small bowls and colored the frosting in a a variety colors.

Each frosting color I microwaved for only 5-8 sec (I would go with 5 sec first since each microwave is different).  You want the frosting a little runny.  Put into a pipping bag with a small round tip and just drizzle one color over the cake and continue with the rest of the colors.  Super fun and easy to do, I even drizzled some frosting on the cake dish as well.

I got a small easel at Michael's Arts and Craft store to hold my birthday sign and also got some paintbrushes.

It was a fun cake to make.  I liked how it turned out!
